With the sharp drop in temperature and significant diurnal temperature variation, to ensure efficient operation and maximum attendance, today's article compiles a winter maintenance guide for sprinkler trucks. Learn it before the beginning of winter to keep your vehicle in good shape throughout the cold season

Maintenance Guide

1.Check Antifreeze

In winter, the water tank and cooling system of the sprinkler truck require the use of specialized antifreeze to prevent pipeline components from bursting due to freezing

Tips:

  • Check for amy missing antifreeze and replace or add more low-temperature resistant antifreeze in time

  • Before using antifreeze, thoroughly clean the cooling system

  • Choose antifreeze with good quality and low corrosiveness to avoid corroding parts due to poor quality antifreeze

  • Add new antifreeze up to the specified scale line, and avoid mixing antifreeze of different brands and types

2.Warm Up the Engine Before Driving

In winter, the vehicle is cold, and mechanical parts expand and contract with temperature changes. The gap between parts increase, and the flow of low-temperature engine oil slows down. Starting and driving immediately can accelerate engine wear, so it is essential to let the engine warm up before driving

Tips:

  • According to local temperature, warm up the engine for about 1 minute at around 0℃, 1-5 minutes at -10℃, and at least 10 minutes at -30℃

  • After  warming up, check if the heating system is working properly and prevent fogging on the windshield while driving

  • Observe the preheating indicator light and comfirm that preheating is complete before starting the engine

3.Insulate Pipes

The pipes and water pump of the sprinkler truck need to be insulated to prevent freezing. Also, it is crucial to drain the water from the pipes after work to avoid freezing at night or in low temperatures

  • Tips:

  • You can use insulation materials to wrap the pipes, especially the exposed parts

  • After work, open all air control ball valves or manually open the water drain valve to ensure all water in the water system is completely drained

4.45-Degree Angle Drainage Method

When the temperature is below 0℃, and the vehicle is not in operation or parked for a long time, it is essential to check for any remaining water in the water pump, ball valves, water cannon, tank, and pipes to avoid freezing and blockage or ball valve cracking due to low temperatures

To prevent such situations, keep the manual ball valve handle and the ball valve at a 45-degree half-open position to drain all remaining water from the tank and pipes, ensuring the sprinkler truck operates normally in cold weather

5.Open the Water Pump Drain Valve

When the sprinkler truck is not in use, it is necessary to open the water pump drain valve to drain all remaining water from the pump

Winter maintenance of the sprinkler truck is crucial as it directly affects the vehicle's performance and driving safety. By timely replacing antifreeze, checking the preheating system, and properly insulating pipes and draining water, you can effectively cope with the challenges brought by the extreme cold of winter
